Long Sword [LS]
A particularly flashy weapon, this weapon has a sheathing counter. Long reach and high damage output without being too committal. A powerful Special, too.
Notes
Armor marked by a 🔸 indicate that the piece is optional, and adds either minimal power to your set or has strong competition in the slot. These sets are created to maximize offensive firepower without many difficult-to-activate conditional skills. The listed grades will be the minimum required to obtain the offensive skills, and it is recommend you upgrade them further than listed if you find the need for more defense. **The build site shows max armor skills.

- Kulu Headpiece (Grade 2)

- The Kulu Headpiece and Greaves are the most important, as they translate well even into late-game. Jyuratodus Greaves are equally potent. The Girros Vambraces may be swapped for Kulu Vambraces, although the Crit Eye is unlocked at Grade 4.
[Midgame] (Pre-Diablos)
- Kulu Headpiece (Grade 4)
- Anja Mail (Grade 2) 🔸
- Kulu Vambraces (Grade 4)
- Jagras Coil (Grade 4) 🔸
- Kulu Greaves (Grade 2)
- The Anja Mail provides higher damage on your (very strong) Helmbreaker special skill. Leather is still good, though. The coil slot is very flexible for now, and you can put either Paolumu or Leather in as well.
["Endgame"] (Post-Rathalos)

- Rathalos Mail (Grade 6)

- - Anja Coil can be swapped for +1 Focus on the Rathalos Coil. The Kulu Greaves can be swapped for Jyuratodus Greaves, if you find +2 Focus helpful in keeping up your Red Spirit Blade or using Helmbreaker more often.
[Weapon Choice - Long Swords]
- First Dance (Kulu) is the strongest raw Long Sword. A good raw stat supplemented by increasing affinity.
- Wyvern Blade "Leaf" (Rathian) a viable option if you don't want to use a Kulu weapon. Definitely weaker, but not by an overwhelming margin. Keep watch for it's subspecies's weapon in the future though, which will likely powercreep this choice.
- Pulsar Shotel (Tobi-Kadachi) is your only Thunder option for LS. It's fine, nothing spectacular. Use it on thunder matchups.
- Jyura Shotel (Jyuratodus) is the Water LS. Good for water matchups, and the stats are quite nice.
- Glacial Shotel (Legiana) is the one and only Ice LS. Great stats, but you only use it for Diablos right now.
- Wyvern Blade "Fall" (Rathalos) is the better Fire LS. More impressive stats than Anjanath, there's no reason not to use this thing on fire matchups.
Build Long Sword Elemental Sets
Element is practically forced upon you once you hit your wall in either 8-star or 9-star content. Monsters have increasingly absurd attack requirements that Element is the only thing that can keep up. A 9-star Legiana wants you to have over 2400 Attack! Keep in mind, there's no reason to immediately go for this until you're stuck. Raw takes you quite far.

- Kulu Greaves (Grade 6) 🔸
- Kulu Greaves may be changed for Jyura Greaves for more focus, if it suits your needs. **This is a no lock-on set.** Going for Lock-On means losing over 300 effective damage, do so at your own risk.

Footnote:
Element set building is extremely unforgiving. Going from Element Attack 5 to 4 loses you a whopping 150 element. When and if we get decorations in the future, these sets will change significantly. Investing into element is entirely up to you, and it is possible these sets may be completely invalidated. All elemental sets were made and optimized with a Grade 8 1/5 Elemental Weapon in mind. Affinity may become slightly more effective at much higher upgrades.
